General Assistant

The Scratch Kitchen™ (TSK)

Location: Remote-friendly with occasional in-person opportunities (Seattle, WA area preferred when applicable)

Time Commitment: Flexible — 4–12 hours per week (minimum 4 hours), schedule mostly self-directed and goal oriented

Type: Volunteer (unpaid) — meaningful contribution hours that directly support both community impact and organizational sustainability

About The Scratch Kitchen™ We’re building a movement around simple, joyful, budget-friendly scratch cooking that reduces food waste, strengthens families & communities, and restores confidence in the kitchen. TSK operates two connected arms:

  • Charity work (mytsk.org) — free resources, starter pantries for food closets, community inspiration
  • Revenue channels (thescratchkitchen.co) — books, guides, classes, and future programs that fund the mission. This role does not work with the revenue channel or any of it’s projects though may liason between the two channels.

We’re still a lean, founder-led organization, so every pair of hands makes a big difference.

Role Overview The General Assistant is the dependable “Swiss Army knife” of TSK — someone who enjoys variety, can jump between small-but-important tasks, and helps keep the whole operation moving smoothly behind the scenes. This is an ideal role for someone who likes checking boxes, solving little puzzles, and seeing tangible progress in a mission-driven startup environment.

Key Responsibilities (tasks rotate depending on current priorities — no one does all of these at once)

  • Light administrative support: organizing shared drives/folders, renaming files consistently, updating simple trackers (Google Sheets, Notion, etc.)
  • Email & communication triage: helping sort volunteer inquiries, partnership leads, or reader questions into the right buckets
  • Website & content support: uploading PDFs, adding recipe photos, fixing broken links, or formatting posts (basic WordPress/CMS comfort helpful but not required)
  • Event & class prep: assembling digital or physical handouts, creating Zoom links, preparing sign-in sheets, or organizing supply checklists
  • Research & quick wins: finding local grocery partners, comparing simple tools/pricing, or gathering stats for grant applications
  • Social & community care: scheduling posts, responding to basic comments/DMs, or helping welcome new volunteers
  • Odd jobs as needed: the famous “whatever needs doing today” category — from stuffing envelopes to double-checking links to brainstorming naming options

Who Thrives in This Role?

  • You enjoy variety and don’t mind switching gears between tasks
  • You’re reliable, detail-oriented, and take pride in “getting it done right”
  • You’re comfortable with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive) and willing to learn simple tools quickly
  • You align with TSK’s values: empathy, encouragement, reducing waste, empowering people through food
  • Bonus (but not required): experience with Elementor, WordPress, basic graphic formatting, or nonprofit admin

What You’ll Gain

  • Direct impact on both community food access and a growing scratch-cooking movement
  • Experience working in a lean dual-purpose (charity + earned-revenue) organization
  • Flexible schedule that fits around life
  • Warm, appreciative team environment — your work is always noticed and thanked
  • Potential to grow into more specialized roles (communications, events, partnerships) as TSK scales
